Palm/Passion Sunday - April 3, 8:00 am and 11:00 am
Holy Week at Hope begins with Palm/Passion Sunday. We will celebrate Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem with a Processional Gospel Reading and The Procession of Palms accompanied by “All Glory, Laud, and Honor.” But then the tone of the service quickly changes as we will hear an abbreviated Passion of Account of Jesus from Matthew’s Gospel.
Maundy Thursday – April 6, 7:00 pm
We will have a Maundy Thursday worship service that will begin with corporate confession and absolution – which will serve to conclude our forty days of confession through Lent with, “You are forgiven.” We will continue with hearing and contemplating Jesus’ Last Supper with His disciples followed by the celebration of the Sacrament and the service will conclude with the Stripping of the Altar in preparation for Good Friday.
Good Friday – April 7, 7:30 pm
Good Friday is a day of restrained joy for the redemption Christ won for us on the cross. We will participate in Tenebrae – the “Service of Shadows.” We will hear the Passion narrative according to St. John and sing hymns and hear choir anthems among the readings as the candles are extinguished and the darkness slowly increases. Near the conclusion of the service, the Christ Candle is removed, the strepitus is heard, a harsh noise indicating the closing of the tomb. Then the Christ Candle is returned to its place in anticipation of our Lord's resurrection.
Easter Sunday – April 9, 7:00 am, 9:00 am, 11:00 am
Easter Sunday begins with the Sunrise service. The Christ candle will enter into a darkened Sanctuary – the light of the risen Christ coming among us! We will sing praises to our Risen Lord and hear the story of His resurrection.
We will celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord in the Divine Service with the Sacrament at 9:00 and 11:00 am.
