Private Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten at Tiny Treasures

Tiny Treasures is thrilled to offer our Kindergarten program which combines children taking our Private Kindergarten and children taking our Transitional Kindergarten. Children greatly benefit from small group and one-on-one instruction from our seasoned, experienced kindergarten teacher.  The small class size allows for our class to become like a “family” as they grow in wisdom, faith, and knowledge. While targeting the statewide standards and skills, the teacher can pace a child's learning based on the child's academic readiness and overall needs.

Our Private Kindergarten is readily accepted by elementary schools. We’ve taken out the guesswork and made sure our report cards and assessment reports will provide your elementary school with all the documentation they need to easily transfer into 1st grade.  Children in the Private Kindergarten program will receive more challenging coursework and will regularly participate in challenging assessment activities. Their instruction will be focused on accelerating the child's learning to help the child rapidly progress through the Kindergarten learning standards.

Likewise, our Transitional Kindergarten report card adjusts the pace of learning for children that plan on attending another year of Kindergarten Instruction. Children attending Transitional Kindergarten will participate in activities that help to broaden a child's knowledge and skills instead of accelerating their skills.  Our small group and one-on-one instruction naturally lend itself to this combined class where a child's individual needs are considered for planning and instruction.

Parents will have the opportunity to communicate with the Kindergarten Teacher on whether or not they would like for their child to progress through the curriculum as a child attending Private Kindergarten or a child attending Transitional Kindergarten. After reading about our program, should you have additional questions regarding which program best meets your child's needs, please contact our director, Mandy Kyle, at .

Focusing on the reading, language, and math TEKS and learning standards set by the state, the Kindergarten classroom utilizes center-based learning. These centers provide learning opportunities where each child can explore their own special interests while also learning important social skills in their kindergarten family.  In addition, there is a teaching center where children are pulled for small group learning. Children attend guided reading sessions in addition to other small-group, teacher-directed centers that focus on literacy, math, problem-solving, STEAM-focused activities, and writing. The rigor and pace of these learning centers are adapted to fit each child's needs.

A reading specialist pulls the children and directly targets skills that each child needs to work on. Children registered for Private Kindergarten will receive more advanced teaching within the guided reading program. The children in Private Kindergarten can rapidly advance throughout the reading levels as they show readiness. Children in Transitional Kindergarten will focus more on reading sight word sentences and beginning writing while progressing through the beginning guided reading books.  The reading specialist will work to help broaden the children's knowledge and expose children to challenging vocabulary and advanced listening comprehension content. All children will enjoy hands-on science experiments, learning about the world around them with meaningful social studies lessons, and participating in gross motor and fine motor activities along with dramatic play, music, and art.

Our program incorporates thematic learning where the entire school is focused on a different theme each week. Children enjoy themes, such as Superheroes, Community Helpers, Dr. Seuss, Old World and American Symbols, and The Story of Baby Jesus’ birth.  Our children at Tiny Treasures enjoy holiday classroom parties, a community helpers vehicle exhibit, Superhero chapel time, our beloved Christmas program, the circus, and the rodeo.  It’s a fantastic opportunity to be able to help our children to continue to fall in love with learning with exciting, on-campus events.

Is Private Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten at Tiny Treasures a good match for a child that was already in a Pre-K 4 program and mastered most Pre-K 4 learning standards?

For a child that has already attended Pre-K 4 and met most Pre-K 4 intellectual and developmental milestones, Transitional Kindergarten at Tiny Treasures will likely be an excellent fit. Transitional Kindergarten offers an additional year of school to students before entering elementary school. It provides opportunities to learn in an academically challenging and enriching environment while also giving the child another year to develop socially, emotionally, and academically. Children who attend Transitional Kindergarten are more likely to acquire the academic skills, confidence, and maturity they need to succeed in the elementary years and beyond. Attending Transitional Kindergarten also allows children to have a more extended school day which helps children prepare for the long days and hours in grade school.

If a child really struggled in Pre-K 4 and the child did not master most Pre-K 4 learning standards, is Transitional Kindergarten the right fit for that child?

If your child struggled to master most Pre-K 4 learning standards that include a variety of academic skills including readiness skills, social-emotional skills, and fine motor skills, then we would suggest placing your child in another Pre-K 4 class within the program. This allows your child another year to master those skills as your child continues to work on social-emotional skills needed for Kindergarten and beyond.

How will the class be different for a child in the Transitional Kindergarten program?

The standards, curriculum, and teacher credentialing requirements in our Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten class are specific to our Kindergarten program. The lead teacher is a certified Kindergarten Teacher that has extensive experience and training necessary to teach kindergarten skills.  Although the curriculum in Transitional Kindergarten is based on the kindergarten standards, it will be modified for the children in the Transitional Kindergarten program in order to meet their academic, social, and emotional needs.  Knowing these children will have another year in kindergarten, the Transitional Kindergarten environment will include more opportunities for social-emotional development, language development, and communication through dramatic play,  small group instruction, and intentional teaching through hands-on activities.

Working in small groups, the teacher will build on the skills the child may have learned in preschool to ensure the child will be able to begin kindergarten with confidence.  The teacher will adequately pace lessons and assessments to help a child become a strong, confident learner.  Children that are signed up for the Transitional Kindergarten program will not have as many accelerated guided reading sessions and will not participate in as many challenging assessment activities as those children signed up for Kindergarten. They will instead work on activities and lessons that help widen a child's scope of learning versus accelerating the depth of a child's learning.

My child will not turn 5 before Sept 1st, could they still be in this Kindergarten program?

We realize many children show readiness for kindergarten before they turn 5 and Tiny Treasures has successfully placed children that are not yet 5 into our Private Kindergarten class. These children have mastered most of the Pre-K 4 skills and show readiness to learn kindergarten skills. After the director speaks with the parent(s) regarding their goals for early kindergarten and the child's readiness, we will complete an assessment and determine our recommendation for the child. After a successful year in Private Kindergarten at Tiny Treasures, the parent would have the option to enroll their child in public kindergarten again after their year in Private Kindergarten or enroll the child as a first grader. Our report card will provide documentation of skills mastered and readiness for the appropriate grade.

Specials and Enrichment Classes

Tiny Treasures believes in meeting the needs of the whole child which includes meeting their spiritual, physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs. We've developed a program that helps to meet those needs with the variety of enrichment classes and opportunities that the children at Tiny Treasures can attend.

Chapel Time helps to meet the spiritual needs of our children. Chapel time includes wonderful music and Bible story lessons that use a variety of props and visual images to help the children understand Biblical teachings.  Accompanied by their classroom teachers, children enjoy seeing all of their friends during chapel time.  Children participate in worship music while engaging the auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learner with motions to the music that include visual cues and graphics. Children learn many Bible stories, learn how to treat those around them, and enjoy being in the beautiful sanctuary with their classmates and teachers.  Click here for a video of chapel time.

Our Kindergartners attend Music and Movement Classes which helps to nurture all the areas of child development and the skills necessary for readiness, including intellectual, social-emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy. Music helps the body and the mind work together. Dancing to music helps children build motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression. Children are engaged with hands-on musical instruments while moving to the beat and learning about rhythm.  The children learn through movement, literature that incorporates music, nursery rhymes, and other popular children's songs.  The children love moving and grooving in our engaging music classes. Click here for a video of the class.

Tiny Treasures is one of the very few early childhood programs in the state of Texas that offers a unique class, The Action Based Lab.  With a whole child focus, Action Based Learning (ABL) supports brain research that links movement and learning to improved academic performance and behavior. Society's increasing use of technology often hinders the amount of daily movement and exploration and experts in education have noticed that children are not reaching important developmental milestones that are critical to both their physical and cognitive functioning.   Children engaged in ABL show improved memory retention, increased focus and attention, improved academic performance, and fewer behavioral issues.  Since implementing this unique program, we have seen drastic improvements in meeting the children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs. The kindergartners at Tiny Treasures LOVE this hands-on, action-packed class!  Click here for a video of our children in the Action Based Lab.

Tiny Treasures believes that many of the developmental tasks that children must achieve—exploring, risk-taking, fine and gross motor development, and the acquisition of basic knowledge—can be effectively learned through outdoor play. Our kindergartners at Tiny Treasures attend daily Playground Time with our expansive playground that incorporates play structures specifically geared for young children. Knowing our Texas heat, Tiny Treasures installed an expansive shade structure to keep our children shaded. Huge smiles, laughter, and exciting play can be found daily during playground time. Click here for a video of our playground.
